I was made aware of an issue my daughter has. She has 7 dolls, but only one bed in her doll house. Apparently it is causing a ruckus over at doll HQ, so my daughter has enlisted me to make her dolls some beds.
I’m not going to be able to make a bed as fancy as the one that came with her dollhouse, but I can sew up some doll sleeping bags!
Quilting cotton is perfect for this project.
For the pillow stuffing, I used some toy stuffing. You could use fabric scraps, but the pillow may end up looking lumpy.
x1 piece of fabric 14.5in by 6in outer fabric
x1 piece of fabric 14.5in by 6in lining
x1 piece of fabric 11in by 6in outer fabric
x1 piece of fabric 11in by 6in lining
x1 piece extra wide double fold bias tape, 6in long
Place the smaller rectangles wrong sides together, ensuring all raw edges are aligned.
Use the bias tape to cover one of the small edges and pin together. This will be the top of your blanket.
Sew bias tape in place as close as possible to the open edge.
Place the fabric in the following sandwich.
- Long outer fabric, right side up
- Smaller rectangle, outer fabric side up
- Lining long rectangle, wrong side up
Sew in place using a 0.25in seam allowance, leaving a 2 inch gap at the top, as shown by the red pins below
Clip the corners and turn the right way around.
Sew a line approximately 2 inches from the top across the width of the bed.
Put stuffing of choice in gap.
Either topstitch with machine or hand sew to close gap
The doll now has a bed!
I ended up liking this project more than I realized! It is sweet watching my daughter put her ‘babies’ to bed, even though it sometimes feels it takes a while!
I still have a few left to make, but the pattern is pretty straight forward. This is a great piece to practice your sewing skills. You can also practice and check out your skills with these pages.
If you do decide to make this project, I would love to see your spin on it! You can email me at [email protected] or find me on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Use hashtag #cozymagichome so I can find you easily!
Wishing you all the cozy magic!
