How I Use Tarot in My Homemaking Practice
How I Use Tarot in My Homemaking Practice
~ cozy reflections from a mostly self-taught tarot learner ~
Psst, want to know a ‘secret’?
I’ve been using tarot for a few years now, but honestly? I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m still learning, still Googling meanings, still pulling cards that leave me stumped.
Some days, I feel like I’m just making it up.
Sometimes I feel like I’m faking it.
Things have started to change since I’ve started using the cards as a tool to ‘talk’ to my home.
I usually used the cards (and still do, but struggle) as a tool for personal growth, but using Tarot to talk to my home… it feels like I’m able to make a spiritual connection with this gorgeous space.
The cards help me to tune into the energy of the house, the mood of the day, and what type of person I need to be to best serve my home that day.
Imperfectly, intuitively, and with help from a lot of tea, here is how I use Tarot as a Homemaker.
🕯️ 1. I pull a card to set the tone of the day.
A one-card ritual to check in with my home’s energy
Once the kids are up and settled, but before I deal with any housework, I settle with a steaming cup of tea and pull one card, simply to ask:
What energy can I lean into today?
For example, I pull the Five of Wands a lot. It makes sense, I have two gorgeous, high energy kids. They bring joyful chaos to our home and life, and when this card shows up, it means ‘prepare for the chaos today!’.
However, I also recently pulled the Two of Cups. It was a good reminder that while attending the housework is important, today would be a good day to focus on connection. To take time to hang out and enjoy the company of my family and home, instead of attending to the never ending ‘to-do list’ of things that need doing around the house. That day, my home needed a connection more than a deep clean.
Either way, tarot helps me notice the energy my home needs, and to take a proactive approach to whatever the day may bring.

🌿 2. I use tarot to reconnect with my home when I feel disconnected.
A three-card spread for homemaking overwhelm
Some days, things feel ‘off’.
It could be the clutter. It could be that things just feel heavy.
So when I struggle to connect with my home, I try to squeeze in this quick three-card spread to ask:
- What is the current energy in my home?
- What does my home need from me?
- How can I bring in peace or joy?

In my experience, Tarot doesn’t give literal answers. But it does help me refocus, reconnect, and act intentionally in a positive manner on days being a homemaker is overwhelming. And on that note…
🧺 3. I use tarot for homemaker self-reflection.
Gentle prompts for grace and grounding
I feel like I ‘fail’ a lot at homemaking.
I have no idea what I am doing, and feel like I am winging it most of the time (and winning).
But on days I’m feeling down about it, I’ll pull cards around questions like:
- What am I doing well that I’m not acknowledging?
- Where can I offer myself more grace?
- How can I bring more magic into the mundane?
Quite honestly, the card I pull doesn’t matter. Reading tarot gives me the opportunity to reflect, and sometimes consider a point of view or narrative I hadn’t considered before.

🍞 Final Thought
While I don’t read the cards professionally (maybe one day), and some days the cards are just plain confusing, tarot is one of my favorite ways to connect with my home.
It has helped me to foster an intentional, spiritual relationship with my home. It’s helped me slow down. Pay attention. Listen.
And that makes me a better homemaker.
